The arrival of Roy Hodgson at Anfield has apparently given Inter renewed hope in their battle with Barcelona to snap up Javier Mascherano from Liverpool. Inter believe their great relationship with Hodgson, who is a former Nerazzurri coach, could give them the upper hand, according to a report from the Gazetta dello Sport.

Upon the conclusion of Argentina’s World Cup campaign Liverpool can expect to receive bids from both the Spanish and Italian champions for their midfield enforcer. Rumours on Merseyside suggest Mascherano’s head has already been turned to a move away from England and his wife is thought to favour the southern European lifestyle.

Liverpool are believed to want at least €30M for Mascherano and Hodgson is hopeful he would be handed whatever funds are generated from the sale to reinvest in the squad.
