Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid’s interest in Liverpool star Steven Gerrard shows no sign of letting up. The Reds appointed former Finland boss Roy Hodgson as their new manager yesterday and the 62-year-old at once indicated a desire to hold onto Gerrard.

Madrid based daily Marca though, report that the Bernabeu giants have already let their counterparts at Anfield know they would be happy to pay €24M for the England man. However, Liverpool are unwilling to even contemplate allowing Gerrard to leave for less than €30M.

The situation was complicated even further yesterday when Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton commented that the Reds, who are deeply in debt, have no need to sell players. This would appear to mean the only way open for Gerrard to move to Real Madrid is if the Liverpool stalwart himself requests a move.
