Calls are growing in Argentina to hand Diego Maradona a long term contract no matter what happens in today’s World Cup quarter-final meeting with Germany. The former Napoli idol has seen his reputation restored in South Africa following a troubled qualification campaign in South America.
Argentine FA member Humberto Grandon told L’Equipe that he believes Maradona has done enough to earn a longer stay as coach and furthermore, that only a long term deal could bring results.
"Diego should not only remain until the Copa America in 2011" said Grandon, "but until 2015, [as] we are mimicking the Chilean federation who extended Marcelo Bielsa’s deal to this date.
"The long term projects are those which give the results."
