Germany coach Joachim Loew has saluted his side’s 4-0 demolition of Argentina in their World Cup quarter-final yesterday. The Germans surged out of the blocks, scoring their first goal after just three minutes and going on to produce a display which will have sent out a message to every other side left in the competition.

"We really turned in an incredible showing" said Loew. "I’ve been proud of my team for a long time, not only today. We played some great football in the second half and the team has shown the will of champions."

Having suffered the huge blow of losing influential Michael Ballack before the tournament the German team was thought too young by many and lacking the experience to win the World Cup. Impressive displays against both England and Argentina in the knockout phase though, have blown that theory out of the water. Germany will now face Spain in the semi-final on Wednesday.
