France striker Sidney Govou has officially put pen to paper on a deal to take him to Greek champions Panathinaikos. The Lyon youth product, who has never played for any other club in his career, was keen to try his luck abroad and Panathinaikos have won the race for his signature.

Govou, who has picked up 49 caps for France, has signed a two-year deal with the Athens club and should earn around €1.5M per annum.

The striker’s close friendship with fellow Frenchman Djibril Cisse, who is also at the Greek club, was thought to be key to persuading Govou to make the move to the Super League.
