Brazilian side Fluminense are confident they are close to securing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Deco. The 32-year-old was approached a few months ago and sounded out about the possibility of a return to his homeland. For Fluminense the deal would represent a considerable coup.

According to France Football, the Brazilians feel the deal is progressing well, with the president of Fluminense’s main sponsors Unimed stating: "The arrival of Deco is very much on track. It only depends on Chelsea [as to whether] he should be released. We have already reached an agreement on salary and length [of contract]."

Deco has spent 13 years in European football, arriving first to join Benfica before ultimately taking Portuguese citizenship and turning out for the country’s national team.
