Liverpool winger Albert Riera has emerged as a transfer target for La Liga side Mallorca. The Spaniards are keen to add to their squad and recently secured quite a coup in appointing Michael Laudrup as their new coach and Riera could be tempted to return to his hometown club.
The 28-year-old made an enemy of previous Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez by speaking out against the coach in the Spanish media last season and spoke openly of his hopes for a move to Russia, seemingly to resurrect his World Cup dream. New Reds manager Roy Hodgson is ready to give Riera a chance to revive his Anfield career, but with the club deeply in debt and with Hodgson needing to boost his transfer kitty with sales, it is unlikely a bid for the winger would be rejected.
Riera began his career with Mallorca, coming through the club’s youth ranks and a move back to La Liga, to join a side which finished fifth last season, would once again help him press his international claims while allowing him to continue enjoying European football.
