Germany coach Joachim Loew has praised Spain for their performance in putting his side out of the World Cup last night. The Spaniards largely controlled the game and popped up with the vital goal in a 1-0 win through a Carles Puyol header in the second half.

"Compliments to Spain", said Loew. "I believe that they will win this tournament."

The German boss also went on to say he believes Spain have been the best side for the past couple of years and that "they circulate the ball well and you just can’t keep up with them."

Germany’s players will also have their World Cup loss cushioned by a bonus of €100,000 each.
