Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has given the green light for Royston Drenthe to leave the Bernabeu. The Dutchman has struggled for playing time in Madrid ever since he arrived from Feyenoord in 2007.

Drenthe was targeted by a number of clubs, but has decided to head over the border to Portugal and join Sporting Lisbon. The move initially looks like it will be a one-season loan deal, but with the option to make permanent at any time.

The winger understood that his situation at Real Madrid was unlikely to change with the arrival of Mourinho and has decided to end his Spanish adventure.
