Arsene Wenger has spoken out over rumours linking the London club to Bordeaux fulcrum Yoann Gourcuff. The Gunners’ boss stated that although he appreciates Gourcuff is a fine player, Arsenal have an abundance of midfield talent.

Wenger told Telefoot, "We are not interested [in Gourcuff] and we were never contacted.

"He’s a player I like a lot, but we are sufficiently covered in midfield."

Gourcuff is expected to be on the move from Bordeaux this summer, but only for the right price. Lyon have been the most vocal about their liking for the 24-year-old, however an asking price of €26M has so far prevented a deal from being done.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has criticised Bordeaux for this, saying that when he said "Gourcuff is not worth €26M [Bordeaux] tell me I do not appreciate [him]."
