Both teams involved in the World Cup final last night can expect to go home richer for having been involved in the showpiece. A real cash cow for FIFA, the World Cup also ensures that every federation that takes part pockets their share of the loot, and none more so than the finalists.

To cushion the blow of defeat, Holland’s football federation will find a cheque from FIFA for $24M heading over to the Netherlands. Money which can be put to good use at the country’s grass roots level and also give Bert van Marwijk a nice pay rise.

Champions Spain will receive $30M from having lifted the famous trophy, although this amount may be dwarfed by the knock on effect the victory will have on their sponsorship and advertising deals.
