Napoli will announce the signing of Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani at a press conference later today reports France Football.

The World Cup star has cost Diego Maradona’s former club a huge €16M to sign from Serie A rivals Palermo. In part the large fee can be explained as being down to the fact that Cavani only inked a new contract with Palermo in April of this year, running until 2014.

The transfer had taken some time to complete because of a disagreement between Cavani’s camp and Napoli’s president over the player’s image rights. This now though appears to have been settled.

Cavani will have a buyout clause set at €30M and has signed a five-year deal in Naples which will earn him €1.5M per season.
