Liverpool have won the race to sign former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole. The Anfield club have bagged the England star on a four-year contact, and announced that all that remains is for Cole to complete a medical. This he will do in the next 48 hours.

Cole was a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Chelsea and The Blues decided to move for Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool rather than keep Cole.

Cole is believed to have inked a deal worth around £90,000 per week to head north, and the signing will be a big boost to The Reds after much activity out of the club and relatively little in.

The signing of the former West Ham man will also help new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson fill up his quota of homegrown English players further.
