Blackburn Rovers could well be readying a bid for Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey. The 32-year-old recently went to the World Cup as part of England’s doomed effort to win that tournament, but has now announced his retirement from international football, leaving him free to concentrate on his club game.

Heskey did not feature regularly for Aston Villa last season, often being overlooked in favour of John Carew, and could be willing to head north to Blackburn.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce believes a bid of just £2M may be enough to tempt Martin O’Neill into selling the former Liverpool striker, and Heskey would add much needed presence to the Blackburn frontline.
