Diego Maradona will not be continuing in his role as Argentina coach after his contract was not renewed by the country’s football association. The Argentine icon had led his side to the quarter-final of the World Cup in some style until Germany dismantled them in a 4-0 defeat.

The Argentina FA wished for Maradona to completely revamp his backroom staff, but the coach wanted to retain their services. It was this stand-off which left the association with little choice but to part company with the coach.

"The AFA’s executive committee met in full and decided unanimously not to renew the contract of Diego Maradona as head coach of the Argentina team", said a statement released by the FA.
