Jean-Alain Boumsong looks to be on his way to Greek champions Panathinaikos from Lyon. The centre back has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Ligue 1 club and a deal has been in the offing for the past week.

A sticking point was over just how much Boumsong would cost the Greek side. Panathinaikos were hoping that Lyon would agree to release the defender from his contract, allowing him to move to Athens without a fee, however these thoughts were soon dashed.

Lyon have not though, according to L’Equipe, placed a large fee on Boumsong’s head and the Greens will pay between €500,000 and €700,000 to sign the former France international. A deal for three years has been agreed and Boumsong should become a Panathinaikos player before the week is out.
