Inter could opt for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger instead of Liverpool’s Javier Mascherano according to reports from Italy. While Inter coach Rafael Benitez would dearly love the Argentina midfielder to join him at the San Siro, Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti is not yet sold on the enforcer and prefers Schweinsteiger.

Mascherano informed Liverpool earlier this week of his desire to leave Anfield, but Reds boss Roy Hodgson made the point that the Argentina captain will only do so on his terms. The 26-year-old is keen on a move to Inter, but has also not dismissed the possibility of joining Barcelona who showed serious interest last summer.

However, Moratti is not yet convinced of the merits of Mascherano and the Inter supremo is a big fan of German World Cup star Schweinsteiger. And having heard the midfielder say earlier this month that he is "not married to Bayern", Moratti believes he could be tempted to Serie A.
