In what could be taken by some as a sign of desperation, Liverpool have re-signed left back Fabio Aurelio. The Brazilian had struggled for fitness under former boss Rafael Benitez and was not willing to sign a pay-as-you-play deal, thus the Spaniard released him.

Liverpool however, having sold Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina, have been without an experienced left back. New manager Roy Hodgson asked the Brazilian to return to Melwood and was happy with what he saw. The club’s medical staff also examined the former Valencia player.

Aurelio has signed a two-year deal at Anfield and his return is a boost for Hodgson. Worryingly for the Liverpool faithful though, the signing also continues the Reds’ penchant for spending as little money as possible this summer and the club remains set to bank millions of pounds in profit from their transfer activity since the beginning of 2010.
