Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of young striker Federico Macheda being sent out on loan away from Old Trafford. The striker, also known as Kiko, had been linked with a loan move as it was believed his playing chances at United would be limited this season.

Macheda, who burst onto the Premier League scene in 2009 by scoring a late winner against Aston Villa, was expected to build on that last season and enjoy more first team football; the Italian though only made five appearances.

As arrivals at Old Trafford have been few this summer, it looks certain that Macheda will have a larger role to play in the new campaign and United’s refusal to loan the forward out must be taken as a vote of confidence.
