Real Madrid want to snap up Mesut Ozil from Werder Bremen in this transfer window and are keen that the playmaker does not become cup-tied for the Champions League by appearing against Sampdoria this week.

The Spanish giants originally made an offer of some €10M to the Bundesliga side, but that was dismissed by Werder’s sporting director Klaus Allofs as nowhere near good enough. Now, according to reports from Spain, Real have returned, with a final bid of €14M.

Werder have privately asked for €18M for Ozil, who was impressive at the recent World Cup for Germany, but Jose Mourinho’s side are not willing to go that high, aware that the midfielder has just 12 months left on his current deal with the Bundesliga side. Real Madrid hope to tie up the deal today or tomorrow, but are prepared to walk away if Werder do not accept €14M.
