Marseille are still searching for a replacement for Mamadou Niang who they sold to Fenerbahce. The Ligue 1 champions had believed a deal for Luis Fabiano was in the bag, but Sevilla wanted more than the French could afford, therefore they have been forced to look elsewhere.
Didier Deschamps’ side have been linked with Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko but, finances permitting, their first choice would now be Andre-Pierre Gignac the Toulouse forward.
However, despite the fact that Gignac is believed to be very keen on a move to the Stade Velodrome, money once again is an issue, with Toulouse seeking €15M for the player and also extra to cover the 20% sell-on fee they must pay to Lorient. Such demands make Gignac almost as expensive as Luis Fabiano.
