Manchester United striker Michael Owen has declared himself fit and ready for action. The former Liverpool hitman has suffered injury niggles since joining the Old Trafford club and was forced to miss the summer tour of North America. Owen though is confident he is now ready to challenge for a starting spot.

"It’s nice to have played a couple of games", the striker said to MUTV referring to his pre-season appearances. "I felt really good in Ireland [against an Airtricity League side] and not so sharp at Wembley [against Chelsea in the Community Shield]."

Owen is confident that the summer spent in Manchester has prepared him for the season ahead and he has no concerns about his fitness.

"I was at Carrington for most of the summer, recovering from the injury. I feel fine, fit and ready to go."
