Sevilla crashed out of the Champions League last night at the hands of Portuguese upstarts Braga, who booked their passage to the group stages for the first time in their history.
The Spanish giants went into the game as big favourites, trailing just 1-0 from the first leg. A remarkable match though saw Sevilla taste defeat on their own patch, going down 4-3 to the Portuguese side.
Sevilla coach Antonio Alvarez explained that he could not quite come up with a reason for the defeat, since his side had played Braga in the first leg and knew fully what to expect. Alvarez did point to the timing of the first goal – it came after just 31 minutes – as a possible blow.
"I think when they scored the first goal it was a very big blow to the team," explained Alvarez, before going on to say that they could not dwell on the disappointment for long.
"Tomorrow we will be annoyed. But from the first day after tomorrow we have to think about the first league game."
