Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is already facing up to life without Javier Mascherano in his engine room and has targeted Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler as the Argentine’s replacement. Hodgson has urged an end to the Mascherano saga and Barcelona are expected to agree a compromise fee with Liverpool for the midfielder’s services in the next few days.
The former Fulham boss has now switched his attention to Udinese’s Swiss star Inler. Hodgson has, according to Calcio Mercato, taken discreet soundings from Udinese as to the availability of the 26-year-old. The Liverpool boss has contacts at the Italian club due to a brief spell in charge in 2001.
Inler is also being closely tracked by Napoli, who had been hoping to do a deal for the ex-Zurich player without too much competition. The arrival of Liverpool on the scene will worry the Serie A side.
The Udinese midfielder is highly rated by his Italian side, but armed with funds from Mascherano’s sale Hodgson would be confident of getting his man.
