Losing the UEFA Super Cup to Atletico Madrid last night appears to have set alarm bells ringing at Inter and the Italian side are working to try to add a midfielder before the transfer window closes: Top of their list are reportedly Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas.

Neither Bayern Munich or Arsenal will welcome any approach this close to the transfer window closing and Inter are aware that to bag either they would need to pay top dollar. However, the mood in Italy is one of confidence that Inter will add at least one more midfielder before the window shuts, and Schweinsteiger and Fabregas remain their first choices.

The Italian champions had tried to buy Javier Mascherano from Liverpool, but found the Argentine’s move to Barcelona too far down the track. Looking for someone to slot next to Esteban Cambiasso, the Nerazzurri will try to make a splash in the last few days of the transfer market.

It remains unlikely that Inter would be able to buy either of the duo in the last few days of the summer window, but the Italians are expected to try nonetheless.
