After an initial victory against Wolfsburg last week, Bayern Munich shocked the Bundesliga as they succumbed to newly promoted Kaiserslautern to a 2-0 defeat last night. The Red Devils, as they are nicknamed among their fans, are already celebrating their second win in a row, despite being clear outsiders to win the league.

Kaiserslautern’s new boy Ivo Ilicevic got off to a dream start as the young Croatian managed to net his first goal in the 36th minute, followed by another by team-mate Srdjan Lakic only 66 seconds later.

"We were superior for 90 minutes and had better chances to score. But it wasn’t to be today. When you lose you have made too many mistakes," admitted German national player and World Cup star Philipp Lahm after the disappointing result.

With another fortnight to go until their next match against Werder Bremen, Van Gaal’s strong team will have plenty of time to regroup and learn from these missed opportunities as they try to win the trophy for the 23rd time.
