Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Javier Mascherano from Liverpool. The Argentina captain underwent a medical yesterday which confirmed he is in tip-top condition and he has inked a four-year contract with the Spanish side.

The fee Liverpool have received for Mascherano remains undisclosed and estimates of it vary, yet it is believed to be around €22M, broken down as €16M as an up front payment, with a further €6M to follow. Should any side wish to buy Mascherano out of his new Barcelona contract then the buy-out clause has been set at €90M.

Mascherano was keen to leave Liverpool due to his family becoming unsettled on Merseyside. A move to either Spain or Italy was preferred by the midfield enforcer, with Barcelona always being his first choice of club.
