Bundesliga side Schalke have won the race to sign Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from AC Milan. The Dutch striker was always expected to be shipped out of the San Siro once Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived, and so it has proved.

Schalke have paid Milan a fee of around €13M to secure Huntelaar’s services and will now look forward to pairing him up with Raul in their bid to challenge Bayern Munich this season.

Huntelaar was keen to remain with Milan, confident of proving himself in Serie A, but the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic convinced him to try his luck elsewhere. English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur were also keen on the former Real Madrid striker, but Schalke have pipped them to his signature.
