Lyon have captured Dynamo Kyiv centre back Pape Diakhate on loan until the end of the season. The Senegal defender had spent the second half of last season on loan at Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne, impressing their rivals clubs to such an extent that a transfer chase soon materialised.
Paris Saint-Germain and Saint-Etienne were both keen on snapping up the 26-year-old, who was keen to continue in French football having enjoyed a spell with Nancy between 2001 and 2007 before heading to the Ukraine.
The lure of Champions League football was crucial in the signing of Diakhate and Lyon will look forward to his services for the rest of the season.
