Manchester United received a boost last night as Rio Ferdinand returned to action. The centre back, who injured his knee before the World Cup began, causing his loss to be keenly felt by England, completed 45 minutes in a reserve senior cup clash against Oldham Athletic.
The 31-year-old defender came through his half of football with no obvious ill-effects and the news will be a boost to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson also saw Brazilian midfielder Anderson continue his return from injury. The former Porto enforcer completed a full 90 minutes in the same game.
