A free agent following his release from Hoffenheim, German keeper Timo Hildebrand has returned to the game with Sporting Lisbon. Hildebrand, at one time rated as the most promising goalkeeper in the Bundesliga, has penned a one-year deal with the Portuguese giants.

"Sporting Club are ideal for me", Hildebrand told the club’s official website. "I waited for proposals and was pleased with the interest from Sporting. It’s another way for me to continue to show my worth in another country."

Hildebrand saw his career in Germany go off track and will be hoping that a successful spell with one of Portugal’s biggest sides can relaunch it.
