Reports in Italy suggest that Inter are planning a transfer offensive in January as they seek to wrestle the initiative back from AC Milan. Names under consideration include Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt and Diego Forlan.

Inter president Massimo Moratti was shocked to see rivals AC Milan complete late swoops for both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, moves which put the European Champions in the shade and raised the prospect that they could be toppled this season. Moratti is prepared to finance a new wave of deals to ensure that this does not happen.

However, Inter must now wait until January for the opportunity to strengthen their squad. Liverpool forward Kuyt interested the Nerazzurri over the summer, but the Dutchman’s love for Anfield proved such that any deal quickly became unlikely. Inter are prepared to try again though.

Forlan would be available at Atletico Madrid, but only for the right price. Inter think the Uruguayan would welcome the move though as he enters the last phase of his career at the top level.
