Antonio Cassano has explained why he ended up refusing a move to Fiorentina in January of this year. For a time a move for Cassano, who was not enjoying the best of times at Sampdoria, appeared on the cards. But then everything seemed to just fizzle out.
"At one time I was going to Fiorentina, then I was faced with the [Sampdoria] president [Riccardo] Garrone, with whom I have a special relationship, and I happily stayed at Sampdoria."
Cassano, who is being trusted by new Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli to play a big part in helping Italy back to its footballing feet, did explain though that he still has a soft spot for Florence.
