Wayne Rooney is expected to travel to Switzerland for England’s Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday despite claims that he cheated on his wife with an escort girl whilst she was pregnant.
Two British Sunday newspapers made the allegations and concern instantly centred on whether Rooney would be able to play any part against Switzerland. However, midfielder James Milner sprung to Rooney’s defence and said that the Manchester United man is a professional and is showing no signs of letting the media feeding frenzy affect his game.
"He’s a top player. He showed it on Friday [against Bulgaria] and trained fully [on Sunday]", said Milner. "I’m sure he’ll continue to do that. Things are always said in the newspapers. It’s part and parcel of football and down to us to make sure the only thing that matters is on the pitch."
