Despite allegations about his private life, Wayne Rooney will still play for England in this evening’s crucial Euro 2012 qualification clash against Switzerland according to coach Fabio Capello.

"I hope his performance will be the same as at Wembley. I spoke with him and he is happy to play", said Capello.

The England boss also took a swipe at the British press, who appear forever trying to dish the dirt on the country’s stars.

"It’s England, it’s England", said a weary Capello. "It’s the English newspapers. In other countries it is not the same. It happens with photographers sometimes."

Capello will hope Rooney can shrug off concerns over his personal life and produce a top-notch display on the pitch. Should he do so, the nation will undoubtedly forgive any transgressions he may or may not have made.
