Argentina shocked World Cup winners Spain in their friendly meeting last night, recording a 4-1 win. The result sent waves of disbelief running through the European country, with coach Vicente del Bosque saying it "hurts".

Three goals from Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez before half time left Spain going in 3-0 down. They did manage to pull one back after 84 minutes, but Argentina responded with another at the death, to make it 4-1.

Del Bosque tried to take some positives from the defeat though and would not be too harsh on his players.

"We have not tarnished the image of our national team. We lost with dignity, never gave up. But I won’t try to play down the victory for Argentina, which was fair and deserved."

In the Argentina dugout coach Sergio Batista said that his side wanted to take on the world champions to show that the World Cup, where they crashed out to Germany, was not a fair reflection of the South American country.
