Having ended his reign as Argentina coach after the World Cup, Diego Maradona is not finished with the world of management and is interested in becoming the new Portugal boss.

Portugal are looking for a new coach following the sacking of Carlos Queiroz and leading the European nation appeals to Maradona.

One of Maradona’s coaches with Argentina, Alejandro Mancuso told Portuguese daily A Bola that the legendary Argentine and his team stand ready to come to Portugal’s aid.

"We have already discussed [the Portugal job]", said Mancuso. "It’s a project of interest. We are completely available, although for the moment there has been no contact."

While Maradona may be keen on taking charge of Cristiano Ronaldo and his team-mates, momentum in Portugal is building behind Paulo Bento. The former Sporting Lisbon coach is currently favourite to take charge of the country’s Euro 2012 qualifying charge.
