Reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid have given up hope of beating Manchester United to the signature of Greek wonderkid Sotiris Ninis. It is believed that privately Ninis has suggested he will only leave Panathinaikos to join up with Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, leaving Real Madrid out in the cold.

However, an end to interest from Real Madrid does not leave Man Utd with an open field to mount a raid for Ninis as Barcelona are also thought to be watching developments closely.

Ninis should leave Panathinaikos next summer and the price is set at €10M to bag his signature. While the Athens giants would love to keep hold of their homegrown asset, they accept that little can be done in the face of interest from such powerhouses of the European game.
