Cristiano Ronaldo sent out a warning that he is returning to something like his best form by handing Real Madrid three points against Real Sociedad last night. The game had been locked at 1-1 until Ronaldo popped up in the 74th minute to give Jose Mourinho’s side a vital win.

The Portuguese boss felt that Ronaldo’s goal clearly got Real Madrid out of jail, and that a draw would have been the fairest result between the two sides.

"The first half, [we] deserved to win, and in the second, they were better than Real Madrid," said Mourinho. "For me, the most just result would have been a draw."

The win has, perhaps temporarily, fired Real Madrid up to La Liga’s summit, although they only lead Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Espanyol by a single point.
