Roy Hodgson believes Liverpool deserved a draw against Manchester United yesterday. The Anfield side went down 3-2 at Old Trafford thanks to a Dimitar Berbatov hat-trick, and it was a result which left Hodgson feeling hard done by, even if Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson stated he thought the margin of victory should have been greater.

Ferguson had commented that: "At 2-0 I thought we might get a cricket score. We were so dominant. I couldn’t see us losing." But Hodgson felt that the Man Utd’s boss’s verdict was unfair.

"I think we deserved a draw", said Hodgson. "United played very well, but to undermine our performance that much is a bit harsh."

The former Fulham boss though would not be drawn into a war of words with good friend Ferguson.

"I respect what other managers say, and their feelings on the game, but don’t want to get involved."

Hodgson also stated that the club would try hard to get into the Champions League this season and that was their aim: "Our aim is to get better. Our aim is to try and get to the Champions League. Maybe that’s where I need to have my focus."
