The pressure is growing at crisis club Schalke after a derby defeat to fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund yesterday. Having made a raft of big-name summer buys, Schalke were expected to challenge at the top of the Bundesliga this season, but their start has been nothing short of a disaster.

A 3-1 home defeat to Dortmund means that Schalke are rock-bottom of the Bundesliga table without a single point from any of their four games so far. Fellow big boys Stuttgart and Wolfsburg, who had also been down at the wrong end of the table with three defeats from three games, both recorded their first wins of the season, and thus Schalke are three points adrift of the nearest team.

Coach Felix Magath has been left to reflect on a truly terrible start to the season, stating: "My worst day at Schalke. Four defeats is a start I’ve never seen before."
