Roma will rival Celtic for the signature of out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given, but are not sure they would be the player’s preferred destination. The Serie A side are looking to improve their options between the sticks, and Claudio Ranieri has identified Given as an possible addition.

Given is keen to leave Eastlands as he searches for first team football. Indeed, the Irishman never believed he could lose the starting gloves so quickly after joining Manchester City’s oil fuelled revolution.

Despite Roma’s interest however, Celtic are believed to be confident of seeing off the Serie A club and taking Given to Parkhead. Either destination would presumably meet with City boss Roberto Mancini’s approval, as the Italian was most keen that the goalkeeper should not be sold to a side which could inflict damage on his Premier League top four bid.
