Legendary Spanish striker Raul has defended his decision to leave Real Madrid for Schalke and insisted he has not made a mistake. The Ruhr giants have had an awful start to the new Bundesliga season, but did grab their first win in midweek away to Freiburg – it was not however enough to lift them off the bottom of the league.
"No, I regret nothing", said Raul when it was suggested to him that moving from Los Blancos to Schalke may have been an error.
"My decision to pursue my career at Schalke is no mistake. We have a great team. Certainly the beginning has been difficult, but the season lasts ten months."
Schalke will hope that their victory against Freiburg is the start of a revival as they host Borussia Monchengladbach today and then follow that up with a Champions League match at home to Benfica.
