Marcel Desailly faces big-name competition in his bid to become the new Ghana coach. New entrants to the race include Gianfranco Zola, Juande Ramos, Luiz Filipe Scolari and Lucien Favre.
The most serious of the new names under consideration are thought to be Zola and Scolari, with both having the presence to match Desailly for worldwide recognition.
Zola is out of work, having left his post as West Ham United manager at the end of last season. The Italian does have some international management experience, having worked as an assistant with the Italy Under-21 team.
Scolari meanwhile is a legend of the international game, having enjoyed successful periods with both Brazil and Portugal.
Any of the coaches under consideration would no doubt not come cheaply for Ghana, and Desailly has denied reports he has asked for €100,000 a month to do the job – an amount which is believed to be the biggest roadblock to him taking the post.
