Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes that those surrounding the club need to lower their expectations. Hodgson was unhappy that the side’s 0-0 draw in the Europa League away to Utrecht last night was not given a more positive reaction.

"If you’re not satisfied when you’re top of the group, if you’re not satisfied when you’ve had a good home win against Steaua [Bucharest] and a good draw against Utrecht, you’re never going to be satisfied", said the Liverpool boss.

The former Fulham manager went on to suggest that expectations held by some were too high and that Liverpool had obtained a far better result at Utrecht than Celtic (who lost 4-0).

"I think people are piling expectations on the club which are unrealistic anyway", said Hodgson, "so the last thing I’m going to do is pile even further unrealistic expectations. We certainly did a lot better here than Celtic did, that’s for sure."
