Dutch giants Ajax are reported to be bracing themselves for a number of bids next summer for their number 1 Maarten Stekelenburg. The Dutch international has impressed with the Amsterdam side in recent seasons and also turned in a strong display at the World Cup.

Heading the queue for the services of Stekelenburg will be AC Milan, according to Dutch publication Voetbal International. The Serie A giants believe the 28-year-old would be an excellent addition to their squad and could add real strength between the sticks.

The Rossoneri could face competition for Stekelenburg however, and Manchester United are believed to be the most serious rivals for the keeper’s signature. Ironically such a move would see Stekelenburg repeat a path he has already followed with the Dutch national team, that of taking over from Edwin van der Sar.

Stekelenburg is a product of the famed Ajax youth academy and has gradually established himself at the club’s unrivalled first choice keeper.
