Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has sprung to the defence of Cristiano Ronaldo. Los Blancos are due to meet Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga tonight, and Mourinho was questioned about the Portuguese star’s lack of goals in the pre-match press conference.
"He will eventually start scoring", said Mourinho, before adding that it was important to remember his Real Madrid team was still in the "construction" phase.
The former Inter boss also praised Ronaldo: "There are core principles [at Real Madrid] and Cristiano Ronaldo represents all of them: ambition, discipline, solidarity." Mourinho added that the forward remains "untouchable."
Having scored only one goal in their last two games, questions are being asked once again about Real Madrid’s potency in front of goal. A convincing victory at the Bernabeu this evening would go some way towards addressing those concerns.
