England coach Fabio Capello has backed Lazio to grab a Champions League spot this season. The Rome club struggled during the last campaign, only banishing the very real spectre of relegation towards the end of the season.
This year the situation could not be more different for Lazio though, and they sit near the top of the table with 10 points from five games; today they meet Brescia at home.
Capello, who is good friends with current Lazio boss Edy Reja, believes that great things could be achieved by the 1999/2000 Serie A winners this season.
"Lazio? They can get in the top four Champions League zone", said Capello. "Edy [Reja] has experience, knows football and can handle it. He is strong and prepared as he showed in Croatia [where he had a spell with Hadjuk Split]."
