Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus are preparing to make enquiries for Liverpool defender Glen Johnson ahead of the January transfer window. The Old Lady have tracked the England full back for months and, according to Corriere dello Sport, could be ready to test the waters with a bid.

Juventus believe that they may be able to acquire Johnson for much less than the £17M he was quoted as costing Liverpool when bought from Portsmouth in the summer of 2009. However, this amount included Liverpool agreeing to write-off the fee still owed to them for Peter Crouch’s move to the south coast, which the Anfield club judged they would not see with Portsmouth heading into administration.

Whether Reds boss Roy Hodgson will be prepared to part with his England star remains to be seen, although his defensive performances have been questioned by some on Merseyside in recent months.
