Reports from Spain have suggested a reason that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is such an accomplished free kick taker may be to do with the way he practices.

The Portuguese star demonstrated his free kick talent by scoring the first of his country’s goals in their 3-1 win over Iceland from a set piece. Ronaldo rifled the ball home in another trademark finish.

According to Madrid based daily Marca, when the Real Madrid star practices hitting his free kicks past a wall of dummies, he deliberately places the dummies two yards closer than the regulation distance players must stand from the free kick. It is this which helps Ronaldo to replicate walls which often creep forward in games.
